About
Foster Advocates is not just our name; it’s our mission. We foster advocacy, systems change, and organizing by partnering with Minnesota Fosters. We serve the 14,000 current, and uncounted former, Fosters across the state, where low-income, Black and Indigenous, and LGBTQ+ youth are deeply overrepresented. Minnesota Fosters ~age 16-26 statewide participate in our ladder of leadership, which serve to address the systemic inequities Fosters face, support Fosters in reaching their personal goals, and develop Fosters' leadership and advocacy skills. Examples include: speaking and writing opportunities, mentoring for high-school Fosters (Ramsey county only) and college-age Fosters to support college/career goals, topical human-centered design programs, Foster Advocates Fellowship, and Community Board. Our Relationships with Fosters also identify critical issues for action. Research ensures we have relevant data to move systems. We initiate Reform to drive solutions and ensure state/county accountability.
